INKLUSI Met with East Java Accor Hotels Group

Finding partners who have the same vision and mission is an extraordinary thing. INKLUSI met with SIGAB and PKBI and we are very excited to hold collaborative activities and events related to diversity and inclusion. We hope that Accor, INKLUSI, SIGAB and PKBI will collaborate to convene and influence persons with disabilities, children and trans women in our daily lives in an inclusive manner.

On 11 July 2022, INKLUSI facilitated a meeting between Accor Hotels Group in East Java, the Family Planning Association (Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia/PKBI) and Inclusion and Advocacy Movement of Persons with Disability (Sasana Inklusi dan Gerakan Advokasi Difabel/SIGAB) to encourage collaboration for the economic recovery of marginalised groups post-COVID-19.

The meeting was attended by General Manager of Ibis Styles Hotel Malang, Ina Rianawati, who is also appointed by the Accor Hotels Group in East Java to manage the company’s social responsibility fund. Other Ibis Styles Malang attendees included Treti Christina K., the Cluster Director of Talent and Culture, and Vici from the Human Resources Department.

Accor Hotels Group owns 137 hotels across most cities in Indonesia. As an international hospitality brand, Accor Hotels Group is committed to inclusivity and has applied eight inclusive principles as part of its commitment to diversity. These principles are:

1) To combat all forms of discrimination based on social status or culture, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, family status, trade status, trade union activities, or other reasons prohibited by law.

2) To put skills at the heart of managerial and human resources to support the development of everyone’s talents and abilities fairly.

3) To provide employees with the necessary tools and resources to enable them to address diversity issues.

4) To promote diversity and provide guidance so this will be put into practice.

5) To take on the role of Ambassador of Diversity for its work partners or suppliers.

6) To recognise all forms of diversity and make adjustments to the various services provided, especially for women’s violations.

7) To encourage discussion and provide an assessment of the impact of diversity practices undertaken.

8) To make diversity a part of the work approach and strategy adopted at the highest managerial level of the company.

INKLUSI Met with East Java Accor Hotels Group

Since 2012, Accor Hotels Group has initiated the Planet 21 social program as an important part of Accor’s business strategy by involving the entire hotel chain, employees and guests. The program is an action plan for the environment sector signed by 173 heads of state at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. One of the actions is to create a hydroponic garden in the courtyard of the Grand Mercure Hotel as a training ground for hydroponic plants for young people who come from various backgrounds, including people with disabilities.

During the meeting, Accor Hotels Group conveyed several things, including:

  • The Accor Hotels Group welcomes cooperation from PKBI and SIGAB as INKLUSI shares the same goals and efforts to encourage inclusive employment with the Accor Hotels Group.
  • The Accor Hotels Group offers internship opportunities for persons with disabilities and trans women, with the possibility of recruitment if the intern meets the qualifications needed.
    • Through the corporate social responsibility program, the Accor Hotels Group provides opportunities for people with disabilities and trans women to be involved in various economic strengthening and entrepreneurship activities which have been organised by various parties, such as social services and vocational training centres.
    • Accor Hotels Group creates opportunities for trans women to be involved in several events that will be held at Accor hotels.
    • Accor Hotels Group said that not all team members or existing employees have knowledge about disabilities, trans people, and children in conflict with the law, as well as how to interact with them appropriately so that there are no misunderstandings in treating their guests.

    • Accor Hotels Group will collaborate with PKBI to commemorate Children’s Day, which will be held at LPKA Blitar.

The warm and pleasant meeting was then closed with a house tour to several interesting spots used by Accor Hotel guests to take pictures. The AccorHotels Group also provides decent accommodation and accessibility for persons with disabilities. The Chairperson of PPDIS, Luluk Aryantiny, who was also present at this hearing, had an opportunity to review the toilets in the hotel. A little note from the review is that there is a slightly uneven floor at the entrance to the toilet, but it can still be accessed by wheelchair users.

The meeting concluded with a tour to several interesting spots used by Accor Hotel guests. The Accor Hotels Group also provides accommodation and accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The Chairperson of PPDIS, Luluk Aryantiny, who was also present at the meeting, had an opportunity to review the toilets in the hotel.
