In commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Migrant CARE, one of INKLUSI’s civil society partners, collaborated with local artists in Solo, Central Java, to stage a Ketoprak performance, a traditional Javanese theatre.
The performance, titled “RANGGAS”—meaning barren hills—portrays the struggles and challenges faced by women migrant workers from a poor village. It tells the story of their experiences with violence and exploitation as they seek better opportunities abroad.
This ketoprak performance is a cultural expression that can inspire and compel us to listen to those who have been marginalised, said Wahyu Susilo, Executive Director of Migrant CARE.
Through this cultural performance, the aim is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting women’s rights and inspire collective action to end violence against women.
By blending tradition with advocacy, this initiative showcases how culture can serve as a powerful tool for driving change. Together, we stand in solidarity for justice and equality.
