To mark the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), INKLUSI partner Sasana Inklusi dan Gerakan Advokasi Difabel (SIGAB Indonesia), alongside its local partner, the Forum Komunikasi Difabel Cirebon (FKDC), hosted an event titled “Towards an Inclusive Cirebon” in Lemahabang Subdistrict, Cirebon. The event also commemorated Human Rights Day, reinforcing Cirebon’s commitment to inclusivity.
The event aimed to raise awareness and foster cross-sector collaboration in supporting the rights of persons with disabilities in Cirebon Regency. Acting Regent of Cirebon, Wahyu Mijaya, commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders contributing to inclusivity, stating,
“I am confident that through this joint synergy, we can enhance our efforts to support inclusivity in Cirebon Regency.”
Over 300 participants attended the event, including persons with disabilities, local government representatives, civil society organisations (CSOs), private sector actors, and the media. Highlights included a public discussion with the Disability Services Unit (ULD) on inclusive employment programs, a showcase of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) run by persons with disabilities, and the handover of assistive devices and disability-specific driver’s licenses (SIM D) by the local police.
This event exemplifies the power of collaboration between CSOs, government, and the private sector in advancing disability inclusion. It is hoped that this initiative will inspire other regions to foster inclusive and disability-friendly communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in development.
