To mark International Women’s Day 2025, INKLUSI’s partner network in Kupang Regency organised a collective action under the theme “Accelerate Action: From NTT to Indonesia”. The event featured a Car Free Day campaign and a talk show broadcasted by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Kupang.
Through this initiative, INKLUSI partners reaffirmed their commitment to advancing women’s rights, particularly for women with disabilities and other marginalised groups. The talk show provided a platform for women with disabilities to share their experiences, challenges, and recommendations for fostering more inclusive policies in Kupang Regency. This discussion not only increased public awareness but also encouraged concrete steps towards the protection and empowerment of women with disabilities.
The event was initiated by Garamin in collaboration with 16 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) within the Kupang Inclusive Forum, including local INKLUSI partners UDN, PEKA-PM, and PKBI. It was also attended by key stakeholders, including the Vice Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kupang, the Chair of the NTT Regional House of Representatives (DPRD NTT), and representatives from CSOs committed to social inclusion.
NTT Vice Governor Johanis Asadoma emphasised the importance of gender equality in regional development.
Women must be given equal opportunities across all sectors, including leadership and development, he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Garamin NTT Chair Yafas Aguson Lay highlighted that the global theme of International Women’s Day 2025, “Accelerate Action”, serves as a call to fast-track the implementation of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI). “This theme urges us to move faster in addressing persistent barriers to ensure that the rights of women, especially women with disabilities, are fully realised,” he explained.
As a collective commitment, the event concluded with the signing of an “Accelerate Action: From NTT to Indonesia” agreement. This agreement symbolises the collaboration between civil society organisations, local government, and communities in working towards a more inclusive and equitable Kupang Regency.
This initiative marks a strategic step in strengthening partnerships to advance gender equality and social inclusion. It is hoped that this effort will inspire other regions to actively champion the rights of women and marginalised groups across Indonesia.
