Thematic Discussion: Enhancing the fulfilment of inclusive legal aid and protection services for people with disabilities in Indonesia
The right to justice and legal protection is a right of every citizen. However, for many people with disabilities, the legal system remains difficult to access. Although Law No. 8 of 2016 guarantees legal aid for people with disabilities, various barriers persist — from limited budgets for accessibility, uneven legal services, to a lack of paralegals who understand disability issues. Legal aid policies also tend to focus only on low-income groups, without considering the specific vulnerabilities faced by people with disabilities.
This discussion highlights the importance of expanding inclusive legal aid services for people with disabilities — from strengthening policies and building the capacity of paralegals to ensuring equal access to the justice system. These efforts aim to make justice truly accessible for everyone, ensuring that no one is left behind.
