PEKKA – Empowered Women’s Voices: Stories of Resilience and Social Change

This publication was produced by the PEKKA Foundation with the support of the Australia–Indonesia Partnership Towards an Inclusive Society (INKLUSI). The book Voices of Empowered Women: Stories of PEKKA’s Resilience in Leading Social Change shares the experiences of organising the PEKKA Information and Consultation Service Clinics (KLIK), a mobile service that assists women heads of households, poor women, and marginalised groups in remote areas to access basic government services. In collaboration with government and service providers, KLIK PEKKA gathers community aspirations related to service access, social protection, domestic violence reporting, and provides services according to community needs.

This book presents the stories of nineteen women heads of households from grassroots communities who affirm their role as drivers of change. With courage and perseverance, they demonstrate that limitations are not barriers to empowerment. Narratives written directly by PEKKA cadres illustrate their journey in challenging social norms, building solidarity, and strengthening the Union of Women Heads of Households (Serikat Pekka). These stories offer inspiration on how women’s collective strength can foster transformation, amplify voices, and contribute meaningfully to a more inclusive society.

The information presented in this publication is the responsibility of the production team and does not reflect the views of the Government of Indonesia or the Government of Australia.
