Background:

Outbreaks of diseases in livestock are often underestimated until many animals fall ill. However, diseases that infect livestock can be transmitted to humans, such as bird flu and Salmonella bacterial infections. This makes safe interaction to prevent zoonotic diseases crucial for public health. One preventive measure is strengthening the One Health approach by preventing the entry of disease agents into livestock pens.

Breaking the chain of disease agent entry into farms and preventing their spread is essential. This prevents contact with disease agents. If implemented properly, it will positively impact livestock health, leading to increased productivity, economic efficiency, and production. Additionally, good livestock health will also positively impact public health.

Human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected and interdependent, so a holistic approach is needed to maintain health resilience. This strategy is known as the ‘One Health’ approach. The Indonesian government, supported by the Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership (AIHSP), has implemented the One Health approach in five AIHSP working areas – Yogyakarta, Central Java, Bali, South Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara – by strengthening systems to prevent, detect, and respond to public and animal health emergencies, as well as strengthening coordination in responding to health threats.

This talkshow is expected to increase the target audience’s knowledge about the importance of safe interaction practices with their livestock and pets around them.
